Wilderness at your doorstep
. . .
Canoeing &
Kayaking
Wheaton River Wilderness Retreat is only a 5 minute drive from Annie
Lake, a small lake fringed by majestic mountain peaks which is ideal for
all levels of paddling ability.
The Upper Wheaton
River is a well-known whitewater canoeing and kayaking river (Class 1
& 2) with the put-in point only a 20 minute drive upriver from our
guest cabin. Paddlers can literally canoe or kayak to the front door of our
guest cabin.
It is also an excellent starting base for those paddlers wanting to canoe
the lower Wheaton River to Lake Bennett.
Hiking & Biking
Backcountry roads & scenic mountain trails provide access points for
exploring the rugged wild beauty of the surrounding river valleys and
alpine areas - whether you're hiking, cycling or wildlife watching.
A Nature and
Photography Lover's Paradise
Dall sheep can be spotted on nearby mountain slopes in the Spring and
Summer and moose, caribou, lynx, wolves, and bear are just some of the
wild animals which travel through the river valley. Annie Lake and adjacent
wetlands are home to a variety of bird life including loons, ducks and
bald eagles.
Winter's Magic
In the winter months the snowy grandeur of the coastal mountains provides
a magnificent backdrop for skiing, snowshoeing, dog sledding and photography.
The night sky may reveal the most magical show of all - the shimmering
glow of the mountains under a full winter moon or the mystical dance of
the Northern Lights.
